Appeals are subject to Article 19 in Act no. 55/1992 on the Natural Catastrophe Insurance of Iceland

The claimant may appeal the decision of NTI to the Natural Catastrophe Insurance Appeals Committee within 30 days of receiving the decision. The Natural Catastrophe Insurance Appeals Committee which is appointed by the Minister of Finance, is a higher authority and is completely independent of NTI.
The Appeals Committee is made up of four members. The Chairman is designated by the Supreme Court and shall have expertise in the field of insurance law. Another committee member is designated by the University of Iceland's School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and he shall have expertise in the field of structures. The other two are appointed without nomination with expertise in insurance law, structures or damage assessment.
The Committee may seek the assistance of experts, if there are grounds for doing so. Further information on postal address and committee members can be found on the Cabinet website.
